This publication is a monograph (60 pp.) by R.M. Gramly entitled TWO EARLY HISTORIC IROQUOIAN SITES IN WESTERN NEW YORK. Included are a color frontispiece, 7 Tables, 15 figures, and 18 Plates.
Two Erie Indian villages—Smokes Creek, Town of Orchard Park, New York and Kleis, Town of Hamburg, New York—were investigated by ASAA Members and others under the direction of R.M. Gramly. This report summarizes artifact discoveries that help date the villages to the first half of the 17th century. The Kleis site witnessed expanded excavations by ASAA Members and Gramly during 1998 and 1999. This fieldwork was described in Volume 6 (2) of The Amateur Archaeologist.
